HOW TO APPLY A VINYL DECAL
Dry Application Method
- Clean the surface to receive the vinyl decal. Spray glass cleaner on a clean lint-free cloth. Wipe the surface area thoroughly with the damp rag to remove grease, dirt and oil from the surface. A clean surface will allow better adhesion and eliminate dirt from embedding behind the decal.
- Set the vinyl decal on the clean surface with the backing paper sitting on the surface and the transfer paper facing toward you.
- Apply masking tape to the point where the transfer paper contacts the cleaned surface. The vinyl decal should not move during application so make sure the tape bonds tightly.
- Flip the bottom of the vinyl decal up. Remove the paper backing to expose the vinyl adhesive.
- Slowly roll the vinyl adhesive onto the cleaned surface. Do not try to lift and reposition the decal. This can cause damage to the decal.
- Slide a squeegee over the transfer paper to remove air bubbles from under the decal.
- Pull the transfer paper from the top of the decal.
Wet Application Method
- Clean the surface to receive the vinyl decal. Spray glass cleaner on a clean lint-free cloth. Wipe the surface area thoroughly with the damp rag to remove grease, dirt and oil from the surface. A clean surface will allow better adhesion and keep dirt from embedding behind the decal.
- Remove the paper backing from the vinyl decal, ensuring that the decal remains intact and adhered to the transfer paper.
- Put two drops of dishwashing soap into a spray bottle. Fill the spray bottle with clean water.
- Spray the adhesive of the vinyl decal and the cleaned surface with the soapy solution mixed in the spray bottle.
- Set the vinyl decal against the wet surface. Move the decal into position.
- Press the decal against the surface with a plastic squeegee. Work the squeegee from the top to the bottom to force the spray solution from the behind the decal.
- Pull the transfer tape from the applied decal when the soapy solution has completely dried. Removing the transfer tape too soon will cause parts of the decal to pull from the bonded surface.
